Twin Cities of Minneapolis/St. Paul's newest Super Group – Bubbles releases their first recording titled – Bubbles.
Bubbles was formed on the whim of Minneapolis musician Craig Teiken after learning fellow musician Becky Kapell had acquired a new puppy named Bubbles. It was the old “Hey! Let’s start a band!” joke and no one thought much about it - except Teiken. Several months later, with no other discussion on the matter Teiken announced he had booked a weekend of recording at Rich Mattson’s Sparta Sound studio in northern Minnesota for early December 2019.
The band would consist of Teiken, and singer/songwriters Edie Rae Baumgart, Becky Kapell and Doug Collins. Days before the scheduled recording session Collin’s mother took ill and he was forced to step out of the project. Undeterred, the remaining members headed up to Sparta Sound on a lovely December Friday with a very loose plan. By the end of the day the group had recorded NRBQ cover “Things to You” and an Edie Rae original "What is a Life" with Rich Mattson pulling triple duty - engineering, playing bass and guitar parts.
On Saturday morn, after a hearty north woods breakfast and a winter hike – work commenced on Doug Sahm’s “She’s About a Mover” and country classic "Love in the Hot Afternoon" as pinch hitter singer/songwriter Aaron Seymour made his way to Sparta to fill in for the missing Collins. Upon his arrival the group tracked Teiken/Seymour original "Your Call” and Fred Neil’s "Echoes of My Mind”. The session wrapped up on Saturday evening with Kapell’s original ditty “Bullseye". Locals Warren Pullford and Glen Mattson came by Saturday eve and rounded out the sound with percussion. Mixes were completed and the group left the beautiful Iron Range on Sunday morning.
We hope you find our weekend adventure intriguing. - Bubbles
